Depression

I often hear clients describe having an overwhelming feeling of being "stuck".  Time and time again, depression can drag us down into low moods, lack of motivation, patterns of unhealthy behaviors, painful and unkind thoughts towards ourselves. Together - with empathy, compassion, and gentle care we can build your motivations and energies to combat negative self-talk, regret and heavy moods.

Sexual Abuse & Assault

For all my clients I work diligently to ensure a safe environment to process their experiences. When a violation towards another human being such as sexual abuse or assault occurs, there is no "normal" symptom. Every person may have their own specific reaction. I will support you so you know you are not alone as we find relief.

 

Anxiety, Phobias & Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Specific Phobias may include: 

  • Emetophobia (fear of vomitting)

  • Animals or natural environment such as fear of heights (acrophobia); fear of dogs (cynophobia)

  • Other medical treatments or issues

  • Specific situations: airplanes (aerophobia) enclosed spaces (clausterphobia)or going to school, fear of social interactions

 

PTSD (Complex and Single Incident)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) & Complex PTSD  are diagnostic references for those who have been exposed to a single or repeated shocking, unexpected or life threatening event. EMDR was developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. in 1987 for treatment of PTSD.  EMDR treatment has been researched and approved of as an evidence-based treatment. When you are having distress from a traumatic memory, it is not uncommon to become overwhelmed with a sense of being back in that moment. With EMDR therapy, I can help you process these memories in a healthier manner.

 

Those with traumatic responses might experience: 

  • an easily triggered fight, flight or freeze response

  • nightmares & other sleep disturbances

  • insomnia

  • agitation

  • irritability

  • hyper-vigilance

  • self-destructive behavior

  • social isolation

  • flashbacks

  • mistrust of others

  • anxiety

  • strange or unwanted thoughts

  • loss of interest in pleasurable activities

  • guilt

  • loneliness

  • sense of detachment

  • feeling numb

Many times past wounds come up when we are feeling vulnerable and exposed in intimate relationships.
